James Vick

Principal, Houston

“It’s a gift to work with diverse groups of people to create road maps that tie together the distinctive social, political, and spatial dimensions that define their communities. These are journeys of hope, expectation, and achievement, and the outcomes can be transformative!”

As an architect and planner with 30 years of experience in the Americas, Middle East, Europe, and Asia, James works with communities to shape their neighborhoods, districts, towns, and cities through collaborative planning and design strategies. His project experience focuses on civic places, mixed-use districts, new communities, parks, and open space systems. His recent work in the United States, Asia, and the Middle East include riverine planning, urban redevelopment strategies and plans for both special districts and private development, preparation of standards and design for green infrastructure including streets and regional drainage facilities.

I grew up on the edge of a great desert. As a constant and indelible teacher, it showed me that the sheer tenacity of life cannot mask the importance of “community”. That, and the culture it engenders, is what really shapes and sustains life.
